Refund Policy
When you can get a refund, how to ask, and how long it takes.

Quick summary: The ₹99 lawyer booking token is refundable if we cannot match you within 24 hours, the lawyer fails to call, or you are genuinely dissatisfied with consultation quality. Document generation fees are refundable only if the document fails to deliver due to a platform error.
1. Scope
This Refund Policy applies to all paid services on Legal Setu, namely:
- Lawyer booking token (₹99): A token amount paid to confirm your consultation slot
- Document generation fee (typically ₹250): The fee to generate and download a legal document template
- Consultation fee: The advocate's professional fee, quoted and agreed in writing before the consultation is confirmed
2. Lawyer booking token (₹99) — when we refund
The ₹99 token is fully refundable in any of the following circumstances:
- No match within 24 hours: If we are unable to assign a verified lawyer for your matter within 24 hours of payment
- Lawyer fails to call: If the assigned lawyer does not contact you within the confirmed time slot and a reasonable buffer thereafter
- Quality concerns: If you are genuinely dissatisfied with the professionalism or substance of the consultation — raised in good faith within 48 hours of the call
- Duplicate payment: If the system charges you more than once for the same booking
- Cancellation by you before assignment: If you cancel before a lawyer has been assigned to your case
3. Lawyer booking token (₹99) — when we do not refund
- You no-show without notice at the scheduled slot
- You cancel after the lawyer has already begun preparation or has joined the call
- You provided incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information that prevented matching
- The dispute relates to legal advice given (which is the advocate's professional responsibility, not ours)
- Refund is requested more than 48 hours after the scheduled consultation
4. Consultation fee — quoted before confirmation
The advocate's own fee for the consultation (beyond the ₹99 token) is quoted by the assigned lawyer based on the complexity of your matter, the time required, and their professional rates. This fee is communicated to you in writing before the consultation is confirmed and is payable only if you accept the quote and confirm the booking.
If you do not accept the quote, no consultation takes place and no consultation fee is charged. The ₹99 token is refunded under section 2 above.
Once you accept the quote and the consultation is delivered, the consultation fee is not refundable. Disputes about the quality of legal advice should be raised directly with the advocate or, if necessary, with the State Bar Council under which the advocate is enrolled.
5. Document generation fees
Document generation fees are refundable only in the following cases:
- Technical failure: The system fails to generate or deliver the document despite successful payment
- Material defect: The downloaded document is materially defective due to a platform error — for example, missing clauses, corrupted file, or wrong document type
- Duplicate charge: The system charges you more than once for the same document
We do not refund document fees on the basis of:
- Change of mind after successful download
- Failure to pay the appropriate stamp duty, register, or notarise the document (these are user responsibilities)
- The counterparty refusing to sign or accept the document
- Information you entered into the form being incorrect (you may regenerate the document for a fresh fee)
6. How to request a refund
To request a refund, write to hello@legalsetu.co.in with the subject line "Refund Request" and include:
- Your registered phone number or email
- The Razorpay or booking reference ID
- The date of payment
- A brief description of the reason for the refund

7. Refund timelines
- Review: Refund requests are acknowledged within 2 business days and reviewed within 5 business days
- Processing: Approved refunds are initiated to the original payment method within 7 business days of approval
- Bank credit: The actual credit to your account typically takes a further 3–7 business days depending on your bank and payment method (UPI is usually fastest)
All refunds are processed through Razorpay back to the original payment instrument. We cannot transfer refunds to a different bank account, UPI ID, or card.
8. Disputes and chargebacks
If you believe a refund has been wrongly denied, please respond to the same email thread before initiating a chargeback with your bank or card network. Most disputes are resolved within a few days of escalation. Chargebacks initiated without first contacting us may result in suspension of your account pending investigation.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. The policy in force at the time of your payment will govern that transaction.
