The questions people ask most, answered straight.

Are these documents valid in Indian courts?+

They are drafted to Indian law — each one cites the statute it lives under (Section 138 of the NI Act for the cheque notice, Section 63 of the Indian Succession Act for the will, and so on) and follows one advocate-reviewed house standard. What makes any document enforceable is correct execution: the right stamp paper where required, signatures, and witnesses. Every document’s page and its final instructions walk you through exactly that.

Do I need stamp paper?+

Depends on the document. Rent and loan agreements need stamp paper, a promissory note needs a one-rupee revenue stamp, notices need none, and affidavit requirements vary by state. You see the requirement for your document before you pay, and the download comes with execution instructions.

Is the preview really free?+

Yes. Fill the form and read the complete document on screen — every clause, with your details in it — before paying anything. You pay only to download the PDF or Word file.

Can I change the document after I buy it?+

Yes. You can edit any clause in the editor before downloading, the Word download stays fully editable, and your draft saves automatically so you can come back and download again.

What is an escalation ladder?+

Some problems are solved in steps: a demand notice first, a stronger final reminder, then a complaint or claim if they still don’t pay. The ladder shows the sequence so you buy only the step you actually need — most matters end at step one.

Is an 11-month rent agreement valid without registration?+

Yes. The Registration Act requires registration only for leases from year to year or for more than one year, which is why the standard residential term is 11 months. Exception: in Maharashtra every leave-and-licence agreement must be registered, whatever its term. It still needs the right stamp paper for your state, and both parties and two witnesses must sign.

Can I send a legal notice myself, without a lawyer?+

Yes — no law requires a notice to come from an advocate. What matters is that it states the facts, makes a clear demand with a deadline, and that you send it by registered post or speed post and keep the receipt and a copy. For cheque bounce the timelines are strict: notice within 30 days of the bank’s return memo, then 15 days for the drawer to pay.

What if there is no reply to my legal notice?+

Silence does not make the problem go away — for them. A delivered notice plus proof of posting becomes evidence, and most disputes escalate in steps: notice, final reminder, then the consumer forum, wages authority or court. That is exactly what the escalation ladders on this page map out.

Can I write my own will without a lawyer? Does it need registration?+

Yes. A will is valid if you sign it and two witnesses attest it in your presence (Section 63, Indian Succession Act) — plain paper, no stamp paper needed. Registration is optional, though it adds a layer of proof. If the estate is large or the family situation is complicated, have a lawyer look it over.

Are e-stamp paper and digital signatures valid?+

E-stamp paper from your state’s authorised vendor (SHCIL in most states) is as valid as physical stamp paper. Digital signatures are trickier: the IT Act excludes wills, powers of attorney and negotiable instruments from e-signing, so for the documents here, ink signatures are the safe answer.

What if my situation needs a real lawyer?+
