Terms of Service

The rules for using Legal Setu.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you ("User" or "you") and Legal Setu ("we", "us", or "our") — the operator of legalsetu.co.in. By accessing or using our platform, you agree to these Terms.

1. Our services

Legal Setu offers:

• AI-powered legal chat: Free AI-generated guidance on general legal questions in multiple Indian languages
• Document generation: Templated legal documents (rent agreements, cheque bounce notices, partnership deeds, etc.) generated based on your inputs
• Lawyer consultations: Paid connection service matching you with qualified advocates for one-on-one consultations
• Case briefing: Preparing a structured case brief to share with your matched lawyer before the call

2. Not legal advice

Legal Setu is a technology platform — not a law firm, not your lawyer, and no attorney-client relationship is formed with us.

• AI responses are informational only and may contain errors or omissions
• Documents generated by our platform should be reviewed by a qualified lawyer before use in any legal matter
• We do not represent you in any legal proceeding
• Information accuracy depends on the inputs you provide

An attorney-client relationship is formed only between you and the independent lawyer you consult via our paid consultation service — not with Legal Setu.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age and legally capable of entering into a contract under the Indian Contract Act, 1872 to use our services. By using Legal Setu, you represent that you meet these requirements.

4. Account and authentication

You can access certain features by logging in via Google Sign-In or phone OTP verification. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity under it. Notify us immediately at hello@legalsetu.co.in if you suspect unauthorized access.

5. Payments

• Lawyer consultations require an upfront booking fee of ₹99, payable via Razorpay
• Additional consultation fees (as agreed with your matched lawyer) are separate and payable before the scheduled call
• Document generation may involve a one-time fee per document
• All prices are in Indian Rupees (INR) and inclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise

6. Refund policy

• Booking fee (₹99): Refundable if we are unable to match a lawyer within 48 hours
• Consultation fee: Refundable if the lawyer fails to call within a reasonable buffer of the scheduled time. Not refundable if the client fails to answer or reschedule
• Document generation: Not refundable once the document is generated, as the service has been rendered

To request a refund, email hello@legalsetu.co.in with your booking reference within 7 days of the issue.

7. User conduct

When using Legal Setu, you agree NOT to:

• Provide false or misleading information
• Use our platform for any illegal or fraudulent purpose
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse our AI systems
• Share someone else's confidential information without consent
• Impersonate another person or entity
• Use our platform to harass, defame, or threaten others
• Upload or transmit viruses, malware, or harmful code

8. Intellectual property

All content, software, and designs on Legal Setu are our property or licensed to us. You may use the platform for personal, non-commercial purposes only. Documents you generate and information you input remain your property.

9. Lawyer relationships

Lawyers on our platform are independent professionals, not employees or agents of Legal Setu. We verify their credentials but do not guarantee the outcome of any consultation. Any dispute between you and a lawyer is between the two of you — we will facilitate resolution where possible but are not a party to the attorney-client relationship.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

Legal Setu is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties — express or implied — about:

• The accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated content
• Uninterrupted or error-free operation of the platform
• The outcome of any legal matter

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Indian law, Legal Setu and its directors, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability for any direct damages is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Legal Setu from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the platform, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms. You may stop using our services at any time. Sections 10, 11, 12, and 14 survive termination.

14. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of our platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Delhi, India.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest version. Continued use of the platform after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
